My mom loves chickens! She loves them so much that my sister bought a beautiful, painted metal rooster for her front flower bed. Upon seeing the rooster, my mom’s neighbor gifted her with a small yellow hen and a clutch of baby chicks. Not to be outdone and leaning in to my favorite craft, I decided to knit a chicken for Mom, an Emotional Support Chicken, that is.

I knit her, using a pattern by Anette Corsino, The Knitting Tree L.A. The pattern can be purchased from either Etsy or Ravelry. The best part about this chicken is that she was knit using yarn that was left over from Mom’s previous crochet projects.

Since Mom recently celebrated her 90th birthday, she is a little limited as to what she can do physically; however, she has been an avid crocheter for years. These days, she primarily makes scarves, that are donated to a local non-profit organization. This group assists families in transition. Also, she occasionally crochets baby blankets, that are then given as gifts to family members and friends.
